Sheth remembered

Lord Bhikhu Parekh, the former MS University vice-chancellor and a recipient of Padma Bhushan, while releasing the book said, Prof Sheth lived for his writing. “He will be remembered through his prolific writings, which will be a boon for many budding writers,” he mentioned. Prof Sheth wrote a column in Ahmedabad Mirror until his death in the US last year.

The discourse attended by around 100 persons emphasised on the role of non-resident Gujaratis (NRGs) in the growth and development of East Africa.

NRGs in Africa

Highlighting the crucial role of NRGs in giving a facelift to African nations, KH Patel, former Indian Ambassador to Rwanda and Burundi, said, “Indians have played an important role in the development of Africa. We are making the Africans part of the development and also generating job opportunities for them. Due to globalisation and liberalisation, eastern African countries like Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda have seen a rapid growth in terms of industries, infrastructure, education and health. Also improving condition has brought in a change in the law and order scenario in the country.”

Patel is also the chairman of  Non-Resident Gujaratis Centre at the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industries. Gujarat Vidyapith Vice Chancellor Sudarshan Iyenger, Gujarat University Vice Chancellor Parimal Trivedi, former vice chancellor Naresh Vai, London-based eminent publisher C B Patel, GRIDS coordinator Balwant Jani and Gujarati Vishwakosh trustee Kumarpal Desai also spoke on the occasion.
